Maldives Tourism Records Best Ever Year with 2.1 Million Arrivals
Tourism Milestone
The Maldives Ministry of Tourism announced today that the island nation has achieved a record-breaking 2.1 million tourist arrivals for the year, surpassing the previous record of 1.87 million set in 2019. The milestone was reached two weeks before the year end, with bookings remaining strong through December.
Total tourism revenue has exceeded USD 5 billion for the first time, representing a 23% increase over the previous year. The average length of stay has also increased to 7.2 nights, up from 6.8 nights last year.
Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom attributed the growth to aggressive marketing campaigns in new source markets including China, India, and Eastern Europe, as well as the expansion of direct flight connectivity with 12 new international routes launched this year.
New Resorts Opening
The record arrivals come alongside the opening of 18 new resort properties this year, adding over 3,200 new beds to the inventory. Several ultra-luxury properties including a new Four Seasons property in Baa Atoll and a Ritz-Carlton resort in North Malé Atoll have contributed to a significant increase in high-value tourism.
